SOC President Discusses Latest Developments with French Special Envoy to Syria

ARK News… President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, held a virtual meeting with the French special envoy to Syria, Francois Senemaud, and discussed with him the latest developments in Syria.

Al-Hariri talked about the surge in coronavirus infections in the liberated areas as he warned of a major outbreak in the IDP camps. He said that there are more than 1,160 IDP camps in northwestern Syria, 400 of which are unofficial settlements that do not receive regular aid and are in urgent need of assistance.

Al-Hariri called on the European Union to step up relief aid to those in need in the IDP camps and the liberated areas as well as to the SOC and the Syrian Interim Government to help them confront the coronavirus pandemic.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in the political process and the military situation in northwestern Syria. Al-Hariri stressed that the Assad regime and its backers are seeking to sabotage the ceasefire agreement signed last March through the escalation of military operations and the repeated aerial bombardment of the liberated areas.

He also stressed that the political process is going in accordance with the same agenda and procedural rules, indicating that this will not achieve any progress in the work of the Constitutional Committee or the political process as a whole.

Moreover, Al-Hariri said that the Assad regime will continue to disrupt the political process and make it meaningless.

For his part, the French diplomat reaffirmed his country’s continued support for the SOC and the Syrian people’s rights to freedom, dignity, and democracy. He stressed the importance of continued consultation to help serve the common interests.
