ARK News.. The regional spokesman for the United Nations on Syria David Swanson said that 800,000 people, mostly women and children, have been displaced since last December from northwestern Syria, due to the military escalation of the regime with the support of Russia.

Swanson emphasized that the wave of mass exodus is expected to continue with the movement of thousands, with residents of entire cities and towns leaving for safety in areas near the Turkish border.

Swanson added saying: “It is heartbreaking that the number of the displaced, most of them women and children, exceeded 800,000”.

He made clear that “residents flee by the thousands in trucks open or on foot, mostly during the night to avoid being spotted despite the freezing cold”.

Russian aircraft and Syrian regime artillery have been bombing towns and villages since early December, with a renewed offensive backed by pro-Iranian militias and aimed at eliminating the armed opposition.
The United Nations says the latest attack has brought the military campaign closer to densely populated areas in northern Idlib along the border, where nearly three million people are besieged.

Aid agencies staff said that families who fled the aerial bombardment and the advance of the Syrian regime forces in Idlib governorate, are sleeping in the open, in the streets, in olive groves, and have to burn toxic piles of garbage in order to seek warmth during the harsh winter nights.
