The Assyrian Democratic Organization Completes its Thirteenth Conference and Elects a New President, Daoud Daoud

ARK News: In a friendly and democratic atmosphere, the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO) held its thirteenth conference in Syria which ended with the election of Mr. Daoud Daoud as its new president.

The participants selected seventeen members to the General Secretariat, including representatives of the youth and women groups, who, in turn, elected the members of the Executive Office for a four-year term. At the end of the conference, the former president of the ADO, Mr. Gabriel Moushe Gawrieh, addressed the attendees, stressing the importance of the democratic process that has characterized the history of the ADO since its establishment in the 1950s, asking the members of the ADO and its supporters everywhere to stand behind the new leadership to continue the path towards freedom and existence.

In his first statement after being elected, the President of the Assyrian Democratic Organization, Daoud Daoud, thanked the conference attendees and the members of the General Secretariat for their support. He stressed on the continuation of the ADO’s political approach through its Assyrian and National interests by working to serve the Assyrian people’s cause and raise its case to the international leaders and forums, as a part of the ADO’s national and democratic struggle for the freedom of the Syrian people.

In a statement to ADO News, Daoud stated that “the amendments adopted by the conference on the ADO’s Rules of Procedure are in line with the spirit of the times and are consistent with the challenges of the current juncture. The General Conference adopted an ambitious and intensive program for the coming phase, whose implementation requires mobilizing the members and taking advantage of all opportunities in the homeland and Diaspora."

More than 60 elected representatives of the ADO branches around the globe attended the conference, which was held in Qamishlo, Syria. The Diaspora delegates participated from Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, Turkey, and Australia through the use of the modern means of communication.
