Syrian Interior Ministry: Blast Site Lies Outside Security Perimeter for French President's Residence
ARK News.. The Syrian Interior Ministry confirmed that the two explosions that occurred near the Ministry of Tourism in Damascus posed no threat to the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron, stating that the site of the blasts was located outside the security perimeter designated for his residence.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the ministry said the explosions injured 18 people, including four police officers, after Internal Security Forces detected two explosive devices during field operations. Specialized units began procedures to defuse the devices, but both exploded while preparations for the operation were underway.
The ministry said security forces immediately cordoned off the area to protect civilians and launched security sweeps and clearance operations. A preliminary investigation found that the devices were crudely manufactured, with one placed inside a parked vehicle and the other concealed in a garbage container.
The Interior Ministry added that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible, stressing that the blast site was outside the security zone designated for the French president's residence and that the official visit is continuing according to schedule.
