Talks Underway Between Syria and Germany to Resume Direct Flights

ARK News.. The head of Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Omar al-Husari, announced progress in ongoing discussions with the relevant authorities in Germany regarding the lifting of restrictions on air travel between the two countries.

In a post on the X platform on Friday, June 19, al-Husari stated that technical and official contacts between Syria’s aviation authority and its German counterparts have achieved notable progress, paving the way for the possible resumption of direct flights after years of suspension.

He noted that a final decision from the German side is expected during the first half of next month, which could open the door to the restoration of direct air services between Syria and Germany, provided that all regulatory and technical requirements are fulfilled.

Al-Husari also revealed that the Syrian aviation authority is preparing for an official visit to Germany in the coming period to complete technical and legal discussions and sign a bilateral air transport agreement that would regulate air traffic and establish a permanent framework for cooperation in the aviation sector.

In the same context, he said that the authority continues discussions with several other European countries aimed at restoring direct flight connections, adding that some of these negotiations have reached advanced stages and that positive announcements are expected soon.

On March 30, Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport signed an air transport cooperation agreement with Germany during a visit by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa.
