Syria Listed Among Global Hunger Hotspots, FAO and WFP Warn
Welat TV – Erbil
A joint report issued by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) has included Syria among four Arab countries listed within a group of 13 nations classified as global hunger hotspots.
The report, released as part of a periodic assessment of acute food insecurity, warned of a potential deterioration in food conditions between June and November 2026, attributing the worsening outlook primarily to the continuation of armed conflicts and violence, which represent the main driver of food crises in 12 of the 13 countries mentioned.
The list includes Syria, Sudan, Yemen, and Palestine, which are categorized among the most severe cases in terms of the intensity and spread of hunger due to ongoing humanitarian crises and armed conflicts.
The report also highlighted other countries facing rising levels of acute food insecurity, including South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Chad, Burkina Faso, Mali, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, and Haiti.
