Lebanese Prime Minister Reaffirms Readiness to Enter Negotiations with Israel
ARK News.. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reiterated his country’s readiness to engage in negotiations with Israel, emphasizing that Lebanon will not miss the current opportunity for regional change. His remarks came as part of recent press statements in which he outlined Beirut’s position on restarting diplomatic efforts.
Prime Minister Salam stated that Lebanon is prepared to enter a new phase of talks with Israel and will request American support to open a formal negotiation track. According to Salam, this readiness represents a continuation of previous efforts, recalling that Lebanon had already engaged in negotiations with Israel nearly two years ago regarding maritime border demarcation.
“We are prepared to re-engage in similar efforts,” Salam affirmed, highlighting Beirut’s consistent position on seeking diplomatic avenues to address outstanding issues.
Salam expressed surprise at what he described as contradictory behavior from officials in Tel Aviv. “It is puzzling to me that they call for negotiations, and when we show readiness, they do not agree to meet,” he noted. He added that this matter would be discussed with U.S. officials as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement.
Earlier, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that Lebanon has no alternative but to negotiate to avoid facing new Israeli attacks. This position aligns with the government’s broader emphasis on diplomacy as the primary mechanism for preventing further escalation.
