Nechirvan Barzani Met with British Ambassador to Iraq
ARK News.. On October 13, 2025, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with the British Ambassador to Iraq, Irfan Siddiq, to discuss the situation of Kurds and Syrian communities, as well as recent developments in the Middle East.
The Kurdistan Region Presidency said that both sides stressed the importance of strengthening ties between the United Kingdom, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region across various sectors.
They also exchanged views on the overall situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad, the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet, and the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections.
The discussions also touched on regional relations, including ties between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and neighboring countries. In this context, President Barzani’s recent visit to Turkey and the latest developments in the peace process there were reviewed.
The British Ambassador praised President Barzani’s efforts to reopen Turkish airspace for flights to and from Sulaymaniyah.
The Presidency added that the meeting also covered the situation of the Kurds and communities in Syria, alongside the broader situation in the Middle East.
