ARK News.. The head of the Afrin local council for the Kurdish National Council (KNC) has confirmed that the number of Kurds in Afrin has significantly increased, with the return of displaced persons and refugees continuing to rise.

In a statement to ARK News, Ahmad Hassan, head of the Afrin local council for the KNC, said:
"Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad and the reopening of roads between Syrian towns, cities, and villages—especially in the Afrin region—we have seen a marked increase in the return of Afrin residents from across Syria, as well as from Lebanon, the Kurdistan Region, Turkey, and even Europe."

Hassan noted that "a large number of displaced Arabs have left the Afrin region, and this trend continues. Currently, Kurds constitute approximately 80% of the population in Afrin."

He added that the remaining Arab population in Afrin now stands at around 15–20%, primarily due to educational, commercial, or reconstruction-related reasons in their original homes. “They are gradually departing,” he said.

Ahmad Hassan called on displaced and refugee Kurds to return to their homes and lands, stressing that “the roads are open and accessible to everyone.”
