
Veteran Kurdish Activist Najmaddin Ahmad Passes Away at 88
ARK News.. Syria’s Kurdish community has lost one of its most prominent figures in the struggle for national rights. Veteran activist Najmaddin Ahmad, known as Mullah Najmaddin Tanati, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 88.
Ahmad was among the earliest members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria (KDP-S), which he joined in 1957 under the guidance of the late party founder Osman Sabri. He shared a close bond with Sabri and fellow activist Yousef Dibo, playing a pivotal role in the Kurdish movement.
In 1970, Ahmad was a key participant in the unification congress of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK), held in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq under the supervision of the legendary Kurdish leader Mullah Mustafa Barzani. Over the years, he rose through the party ranks, ultimately serving as an Area Committee member for the party’s Jazeera branch.
His passing marks the end of an era for Syria’s Kurdish political struggle.
