Mazloum Abdi: It Was a Pleasure to Meet President Masoud Barzani

ARK News.. The General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) emphasized that the Kurdish stance in Syria must remain united to safeguard the rights of the Kurdish people. He added that it was an honor and a pleasure to meet President Masoud Barzani in Erbil.

In an official post on his page on the "X" platform today, Friday, January 17, 2025, Mazloum Abdi stated, "It was a pleasure to meet President Masoud Barzani."

Abdi added, "We discussed the current situation in Syria and reaffirmed that the Kurdish position must remain united. Negotiations with the new Syrian authorities in Damascus should be based on the protection of Kurdish people's rights."

He further clarified, "The meeting emphasized the importance of Kurdish unity and the shared responsibility of ensuring stability in the region."

On the evening of Thursday, January 16, 2025, President Masoud Barzani received Mazloum Abdi, the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, at the Salahuddin resort.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around the situation in Syria, the latest security and political developments, and the overall framework for Kurdish parties' engagement with the ongoing developments in Syria. They also explored ways to adopt a unified position among Kurdish factions in the country.

The meeting underscored that Kurdish parties in Syria must determine their destiny independently and through peaceful means. It highlighted the importance of uniting their ranks and forming a common position to reach agreements and understandings with the new Syrian authorities. Furthermore, the Kurdish parties were encouraged to act as a force for peace and stability, working to prevent the recurrence of tragedies that have afflicted the Kurdish people and other communities in Syria.
