ARK News.. On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, marked the 12th anniversary of the martyrdom of Kurdish journalist Hozan Abu Zaid, who was martyred by a sniper’s bullet while covering clashes between PYD fighters and the Free Syrian Army in the city of Sari Kaniye in Syrian Kurdistan.

A Brief Biography of Hozan Abu Zaid
Hozan Abu Zaid was born on March 23, 1993, in Qamishlo, Syrian Kurdistan. At the time of his death, he was in his second year studying Computer Technology in Homs.

From the onset of the Syrian revolution, Abu Zaid was an active participant and journalist, documenting the uprising with his camera. He took part in all the protests in Qamishlo and, during his studies in Homs, joined demonstrations in the Khalidiya Square of the city.

Hozan Abu Zaid was martyred while capturing intense moments of conflict in Sari Kaniye through his lens. At the time of his death on November 19, 2012, he was filming one of his last reports, which exposed and unsettled the Assad regime and its militias.

His camera remained as a testament to the atrocities of the Syrian regime and the enemies of freedom, documenting the struggle until his final moments.
