ARK News… The World Health Organization has warned of the spread of scabies in camps for displaced people in northwestern Syria, noting that camp residents are seven times more likely to contract scabies.

The European Emergency Response Coordination Center reported the results of a survey conducted by the organization, which showed that scabies is “spread at an unusually high rate” within six regions in Idlib, where 4.2 million people live, most of them women and children.

The study confirmed that camp residents are seven times more susceptible to scabies compared to those residing outside them.

The study indicated that 32.4% of camps, and 51.6% of communities, currently have scabies response services, leaving most of the highest priority areas without assistance.

The European Center warned that crowded living conditions and limited access to effective treatment contribute to increasing the risk of infection.

The World Health Organization said its health, water and sanitation partners are preparing a response in northwestern Syria, including comprehensive medicine management for 155,965 people in 70 camps and seven communities.
