Guterres: The recruitment of children by the SDF has increased by 80% over the past two years
ARK News… In his fourth report on the violence against children in Syrian Kurdistan, which he submitted to the International Security Council, the Secretary-General of the United Nations addressed the violations committed against them by 30 factions.
António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, submitted a report to the UN Security Council on (November 27, 2023), covering the period from (July 1, 2020) to (July 30, 2022), and consisting of 6 sections, in which he talked about arming, killing, injury, sexual assaults, and other matters. Sexual violence, attacks on schools and hospitals, kidnapping, and denial of access to humanitarian aid.
António Guterres said in his report that “2,990 children” were recruited, including “2,860 males and 130 females,” between the ages of 9 and 17, throughout Syria.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations confirmed that the Syrian Democratic Forces and other forces affiliated with the PYD administration recruited "829" children in the areas under their control.
In his report, Guterres revealed that “792” children were killed and “1,99” others were injured, including 245 males, 439 females, and 207 unidentified people.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations held the Syrian Democratic Forces and the PYD administration responsible for the killing of 145 children, “70 by the People’s Protection Units/Yomen’s Protection Units, 58 by other units affiliated with the SDF, and 17 children by the Afrin Liberation Forces.”
Guterres noted in his report that the Syrian Democratic Forces signed an agreement in 2019 with the United Nations under which they pledged to end the recruitment of those under the age of 18, and for this purpose opened offices in the areas under their control, “but the number of children recruited by the SDF and PYD militants increased by 80 percent.” %” during the past two years.
According to the report, the period (July 1, 2020) until (July 30, 2022) witnessed “5,219” violations by 30 armed factions against 5,073 children, an increase of 10% compared to the previous report submitted on (April 23, 2021).
