Member of Barzani Charity in Afrin: We support any activity that aims to highlight creative talents in civil society

ARK News… As part of the Barzani Charity Development Foundation projects in the city of Afrin and its towns and villages, three courses were opened for women and children in the village of Basouta.

Under the sponsorship of the Barzani Charity Foundation in Afrin, the Raparin Art and Folklore Troupe began opening three courses for women: handicrafts, drawing, and folkloric dancing.

Visual artist Shaza Ahmed, one of the trainers, on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, in exclusive statements to ARK, “For years, I have been in favor of educating the youth and women’s groups in the village and activating their talents, but we were facing difficulties in that, and today, thanks to the Foundation, we have been able to open courses and provide services to youth energies and provide More opportunities for creative talents.

She continued, "We started with four students, while the number recently reached ten, and there is a strong demand for education and development."

Raparin Khalil, a member of the Barzani Charity Foundation in Afrin, confirmed that “the aim of these courses is to support civil society in highlighting creative capabilities and talents, and as an institution we continue to support any similar activity in the region.”

She continued by saying, "As a first step, we started in the village of Basouta and provided the supplies, and we are open to supporting any step in Afrin and its countryside."

For her part, Badia Ma’mo, one of the trainees in the handicrafts course, expressed her great satisfaction with her participation in it, hoping that it will support her so that she can support her family in the future.

On February 6, a devastating earthquake struck both areas in Turkey and Syria, causing tens of thousands of civilians to lose their lives. The cities of Afrin and Jenderes had the largest share of the cities of Syrian Kurdistan, as the number of victims reached 1,100 people in Jenderes alone.

The Barzani Charity Foundation was the first humanitarian organization that helped the cities of Afrin and Jenderes and their countryside, by arriving in the region on February 10. On February 19, the Foundation officially opened its office in the city center of Afrin, to continue providing humanitarian aid to those affected by the earthquake. On June 4 of this year, a center for culture and development was opened in Afrin.

The World Bank stated in a report issued on February 27 that the earthquakes caused direct material damage worth $34.2 billion in Turkey, claiming the lives of at least 45,000 people. While statistics indicate that the number of victims in Syria exceeded 5,900 people.
