ARK News... On the twenty-seventh of June 2023, the ninth anniversary of the martyrdom of the Kurdish student, Sherwan Barakat, died under torture in the detention centers of the Syrian regime.

Following are the details of his arrest and his death under torture:

On the twentieth of August 2013, the Syrian regime arrested Sherwan Barakat, a petroleum engineering student at Al-Baath University in Homs, and he died under torture in the detention centers of the Syrian regime.

According to Sherwan's friends in the university dormitory in Homs, the security guard at the door of the university dormitory checked Sherwan's phone and found video clips of Amouda's demonstrations against the Syrian regime, after which the regime's security took him to an unknown destination.

Sherwan's family tried in various ways to get him released or at least see him even once, but to no avail.

After a long search, the institutions of the Syrian regime told Sherwan's father in June 2014 that his son's name is among the names of those who died in detention centers, and they did not hand him his son's body, but rather a death document stating that he died on 16/02/2014.

Condolence ceremonies were held at the home of the martyr’s father in the city of Amouda on 27-28-29 June 2014.
