ARK News...The European Union denied easing its sanctions against the regime or changing its position after returning it to the Arab League.

The European conversation came as a comment on news of Arab-European negotiation to ease sanctions according to the “step by step” policy.

Union spokesman Luis Miguel Bueno indicated that the European bloc does not ease or lift sanctions on the regime, but rather discusses the latest developments with partners in the League of Arab States, and continues to support the political process led by the United Nations.

Bueno explained that the European Union agrees with the vision of the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, that this step of reintegration should be seen as the beginning of a long process, and not as full normalization.

The European official stressed that the road before the regime to normalization is still long, stressing the need for its commitment to what it agreed upon with the Arab countries in the “Amman” meeting, taking credible steps in implementing Security Council Resolution 2254 and working honestly with the United Nations Special Envoy, Geir Pedersen, Through a “step by step” approach.
