(102) Organizations calling for the release of activist Zara Mohammadi
ARK News… On the fourteenth of July 2020, the first branch of the “Islamic Revolution” court in Sinna province, headed by Judge Saeed Saeedi, sentenced the Kurdish activist, Zara Mohammadi, to ten years in prison. Reducing the prison term to five years in the month of October of the year 2020.
The Kurdish teacher, Zara Mohammadi, on May 23, 2019, was arrested, along with two of her colleagues, on charges of "anti-Iranian national security" after raiding the headquarters of the Nujeen Cultural and Social Council, in which they work in its administrative body.
Zara Mohammadi was born in the village of Sarawla, in the Diyolan town of Sinna province in Iranian Kurdistan, and graduated from Birjand University with a master's degree in "Geopolitics." she and her colleagues founded the Nujeen Cultural Council.
According to information obtained from various media, journalists, and civilian sources, Zara insisted on staying in Iran, not fleeing, and speaking the Kurdish language.
We - in the organizations that have signed this statement, declare our full solidarity with “Zara Mohammadi” and all prisoners of conscience and activists in Iran, and we record our condemnation and denunciation of all the practices of the Iranian government against the Kurds, including arbitrary arrests, killings, executions, and all that is a violation of human rights in accordance with international human rights law.
We also appeal to all regional and concerned international parties to assume their responsibilities towards the Kurdish people in Iran and to intervene to stop these continuous violations against defenseless Kurdish civilians, and we call on the concerned authorities to work hard and quickly to release Zara Mohammadi and all prisoners of conscience and activists in Iran.
We also call on international organizations, the United Nations and women’s organizations, to mobilize and advocate to support the case of Zara Mohammadi’s arrest and to demand the Iranian authorities to stop these racist practices against the Kurdish people, including Kurdish women in Iranian Kurdistan, and to immediately release Zara Mohammadi.
