The United States allocates $260 million to support the Peshmerga

The White House announced that President Joe Biden signed the National Defense Authorization Act for the 2022 fiscal year, which allows for spending $770 billion in defense, noting that $260 million has been allocated to support the Peshmerga forces.

Earlier this month, the Senate and House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly in favor of the defense bill, with strong support from both Democrats and Republicans, for the annual legislation that sets Defense Department policy.

According to the report of the US Department of Defense "Pentagon" budget for the year 2022, 345 million dollars were allocated to assist and arm the Iraqi security forces, including 260 million dollars to assist, arm, and provide salaries for the Peshmerga forces.

The US Defense Department's draft budget also states that Baghdad does not provide salaries to the Peshmerga, so the lion's share of US aid will be provided to the Peshmerga.

With regard to the role of the Peshmerga forces, the Pentagon report indicates that the Peshmerga play an important role in confronting ISIS and are a major part of the Iraqi security forces.
