The National Council holds the SDF responsible for the kidnapping of children

Nov 25 2021

ARK News… The Kurdish National Council in Syria, on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, issued a statement to the public opinion, regarding the continued recruitment of children by the Revolutionary Youth organization, in which it held the Syrian Democratic Forces responsible for the kidnapping of children, and appealed to the United Nations, human rights and humanitarian organizations concerned with the protection of children's rights, and the international coalition forces to carry out their responsibilities and pressure the "SDF" to return dozens of minor children kidnapped by the Revolutionary Youth organization and its affiliated militias. ARK has received a copy of the statement that reads:

Revolutionary Youth organization of the Democratic Union Party on the evening of Sunday 21/11/2021, kidnapped three underage girls from Amouda city with the aim of recruiting them into their military militia. They are:

- Avin Jalal Khalil (15 years old)
- Ayana Idris Ibrahim (15 years old)
- Hadiya Abdel Rahim Antar (16 years old)

Years ago, this organization kidnapped and recruited hundreds of minor children, and the frequency of these crimes has increased since the beginning of this year. The families of the kidnapped girls have received communications from the officials of this organization confirming that their children have been recruited into the ranks of the military forces and that they will undergo military training courses for six months and will not be able to communicate during this period with their families.

The Kurdish National Council condemns in the strongest terms the crimes and violations of this organization against our people, especially the kidnapping and recruitment of minor children, and holds the Syrian Democratic Forces fully responsible for preventing them, holding the perpetrators accountable, and dissolving this organization, especially since the “Childhood Protection” office established by the “SDF” is unable to return the kidnapped children to their families.

It is worth noting that the Statute of the International Criminal Court affirms that “compulsory or voluntary recruitment of children” into armed forces or groups constitutes a war crime in international and non-international armed conflicts.

The Kurdish National Council also appeals to the United Nations, human rights and human rights organizations concerned with the protection of children's rights, and the international coalition forces to carry out their responsibilities and pressure the "SDF" to return dozens of minor children kidnapped by the Revolutionary Youth organization and its affiliated militias and to immediately stop the recruitment of minors once and for all and protect their rights as stipulated, as stipulated and guaranteed by international laws and charters.
