A statement from the Erbil Airport Directorate
ARK News.. The director of Erbil International Airport, on Monday 13 July 2020, said that Erbil Airport is ready to resume air navigation. Adding that the halting of flights caused great material damage to airports, airlines and even tourists.
He added that Erbil International Airport is likely to resume domestic and international flights next week after an approval from Iraq’s civil aviation authority, said Talar Fayiq, Director General of the airport.
“We are ready to resume the flights… but the decision on the matter will be taken next week,” Fayiq told reporters after a meeting with other directors at the airport during which they discussed the current situation with regards to the pandemic and the technical capacities.
Iraq’s civil aviation authority has extended the flight ban until 22 July as part of the measures to curb the spread of the virus.
Upon the resumption of the flights, however, there would be additional measures for the safety of the passengers against the pandemic, according to Fayiq, who did not indicate what measures would be added.
