ARK News: Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has responded to the remarks by Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary general of the Lebanese Hezbollah, who had disrespected Kurdish prominent leader, Masoud Barzani, and the Peshmerga forces.

In a speech delivered to remember Iran's top commander, Qassem Soleimani, Nasrallah insulted the Kurdish nation and Peshmerga fighters, claiming that if it wasn’t for the Iranians, the Islamic State (IS) would have overrun the Kurdistan Region.

"It is unfortunate that someone like Mr. Nasrallah neglected the historical role of President Barzani in combating dictatorships and his role in defeating [the Islamic State] Da’esh," the Kurdish president said in a statement.

He further reminded that Barzani "dedicated all his life to confronting the oppressors and to liberating his people, and during the war against Da’esh, he was on the ground as the Commander of the Peshmerga forces."

The Kurdish nation "always appreciates their partners' assistance and thank all those who have helped the Kurdistan Region," Barzani added.

The Peshmerga forces protected the Kurdistan Region and played a key role in liberating some other areas in Iraq during the war against the Islamic State.

"And today, we consider the preservation of peace, coexistence, and confronting terrorism as our priority."
