ARK News: Karmi Sayaad and his wife have been working for the past 50 years in the Kurdish section of Yerevan, capital of Armenia.

Karmi Sayaad, as a well-known Kurdish intellectual, he worked to spread and revive the Kurdish language and culture through his work as a journalist.

"The Armenian government abandoned the support of the Kurdish section of radio for economic reasons at a time when 12 radio workers were forced to leave work," Sayaad told Kurdistan 24.

He continued saying: "My wife and I followed our work and from our own income we managed to keep the Kurdish section alive and continue broadcasting."

Sayaad said that he was walking about 24 kilometers daily between the radio and his home.

"I considered myself a fighter in the Peshmerga, and I feel that I am doing my duty to my country, my language, and my culture," he said.

His son and daughter work at the Kurdish radio station Yerevan, while Karmi Sayaad has stayed his house since 2014 because of his deteriorating health.

Carmi was born in Armenia in 1938 and has been working in the Kurdish section of Radio Yerevan since 1960.
