Arbitrary Detention Cases in Syria Fall to Record Low Levels
ARK News.. A Syrian human rights network has reported that cases of arbitrary detention in Syria fell to record low levels during the third quarter of 2026.
In its quarterly report, the Syrian Network for Human Rights said the documented cases were recorded across the three months at five in July, seven in August, and one in September. August accounted for the highest number, representing 53.8 percent of the total cases.
The scale of the decline becomes clear when compared with the first half of the year. The network documented 246 cases of arbitrary detention during the first six months, including 210 cases in the first quarter alone, accounting for around 85.4 percent of the total recorded during the first half of the year.
According to the network’s classification of the perpetrators, 12 cases, including one involving a child, were attributed to Israeli forces, accounting for 92.3 percent of the total. One case was attributed to Syrian government forces and involved a media activist.
The network said the cases were concentrated in the provinces of Daraa and Quneitra, with six cases recorded in each, while Hama province recorded one case.
