ARK News.. The Syrian Foreign Ministry has denied reports that Germany is planning to deport large numbers of Syrian refugees, saying talks are underway with Berlin to explore the possibility of changing residence permit categories to reflect the circumstances of people who have settled and integrated into German society.

According to SANA, Nahla Othman, director of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of Expatriate and Refugee Affairs, said that following a meeting with the German Interior Ministry in Berlin on September 24, “reports about the deportation of 700,000 refugees have no basis in fact and do not reflect the procedures being followed by the German authorities.”

Othman added that, through coordination and dialogue with the German government and relevant authorities, Damascus is exploring the possibility of changing residence permit categories for people who have settled and integrated into society.

She also said efforts were underway to create new opportunities to review the cases of people whose asylum applications had been rejected, in accordance with German laws and procedures.

Othman stressed that the Department of Expatriate and Refugee Affairs continues to monitor the situation of Syrian refugees and expatriates around the world and is working with international organizations and host countries to safeguard their rights and dignity.
