UN: More Than 8 Million Refugees and Forcibly Displaced People Could Lose Vital Assistance

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has warned that around 8.3 million refugees and forcibly displaced people could lose vital assistance as protection services decline amid “severe” funding cuts.
UNHCR said its “ability to protect and assist refugees, internally displaced people and stateless people is being eroded by a persistent and growing funding gap.”
The agency noted that by the end of July, it had received only 32% of the $8.5 billion it needs this year to protect refugees.
