Spain: Up to 5,000 Migrants Remain Stranded in Ceuta

ARK News.. Authorities in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta say between 3,000 and 5,000 migrants remain in the city, despite the return of more than 69,000 migrants to Morocco.

Speaking to Spanish broadcaster Telecinco, Ceuta President Juan Jesús Vivas said the city has not yet returned to normal, citing the continued presence of thousands of migrants and the ongoing strain on reception facilities.

In a separate interview with Cadena SER radio, Alberto Gaitán, Ceuta's presidential adviser, said the city is currently caring for 862 unaccompanied migrant minors, far exceeding its normal reception capacity.

Gaitán noted that the central government has designated 29 places as Ceuta's standard capacity for accommodating unaccompanied minors, meaning current occupancy exceeds that limit by 2,872%.

He added that local authorities are reorganizing reception facilities and preparing two additional centers to accommodate the children currently in the city.

Under Spanish immigration law, unaccompanied foreign minors are placed under the care of the public authorities responsible for child protection until their legal status is resolved.
