Nechirvan Barzani: The Peshmerga Doctrine Is a Golden and Fundamental Part of Our National and Ethnic Identity

ARK News.. The president of the Kurdistan Region affirmed that the Peshmerga forces constitute a golden and essential pillar in shaping the Region’s national and ethnic identity, stressing that preserving their status and proud legacy is a collective duty and a responsibility shared by all.

Speaking during a graduation ceremony for a new class of officers at the military academy in the Qalacholan area, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani said:

“The name and designation of the Peshmerga carry profound sanctity and great prestige. The Peshmerga doctrine represents a golden and fundamental part of our national and ethnic identity.”

The Kurdistan Region President added that the sacrifices made by the Peshmerga throughout their history impose a firm obligation to safeguard and protect this institution.

Barzani continued:

“Our duty is to defend the reputation of the Peshmerga, preserve its dignity and proud history, and take pride in its long journey of struggle and sacrifice for the homeland.”

The remarks came during a ceremony marking the graduation of a new cohort of military officers, highlighting the significance of the Peshmerga as a cornerstone of the Kurdistan Region’s security institutions and national heritage.
