“623” Displaced Kurdish Families Return to Their Homes in Afrin Region
ARK News.. Afrin and its countryside witnessed a festive atmosphere on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, with the arrival of the first convoys of displaced families returning from the countryside of Kobani after years of displacement away from their original homes.
The convoy, which included 623 displaced families, departed from the village of “Golmid” in the countryside of Kobani on Monday night, heading toward the city of Afrin and its villages.
Upon the convoy’s arrival, residents and relatives in the area welcomed the returning families with traditional Kurdish dances and celebratory ululations.
This step comes as part of ongoing efforts aimed at facilitating the return of displaced and uprooted residents of Afrin to their homes and properties and ending years of suffering endured in camps and neighboring villages.
