Barzani and Al-Sharaa Discuss Strengthening Iraq–Syria Relations at Antalya Forum

ARK News.. Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, met on Friday, April 17, 2026, with Ahmad al-Sharaa on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and Syria, with a particular focus on economic and trade cooperation, as well as the latest regional developments and the impact of ongoing conflicts.

Both leaders stressed the importance of regional cooperation to address threats to security and stability. They also exchanged views on the situation in Syria, including the circumstances of Kurds and other components in the country.

During the meeting, Barzani expressed appreciation for the steps and efforts taken by the Syrian leadership to resolve internal issues, including the agreement reached with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

For his part, al-Sharaa thanked Barzani and the leadership of the Kurdistan Region for their role and continued support for peace efforts and political solutions.

The meeting also covered a number of other issues of mutual interest.
