Masoud Barzani and Masrour Barzani Light Newroz Flame at Erbil Citadel

ARK News.. Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani lit the Newroz flame on Friday evening, March 20, 2026, atop the historic Erbil Citadel, in a festive atmosphere reflecting the Kurdish people’s spirit of freedom and renewal.

In a speech marking the occasion, Prime Minister Barzani extended his warmest congratulations on both Newroz and Eid al-Fitr to President Masoud Barzani, the Peshmerga forces, the families of martyrs, and all people of Kurdistan.

He emphasized that the Kurdish people have demonstrated resilience throughout history, standing firm against oppression and never yielding to attempts to break their will. He expressed hope that, under the leadership of Masoud Barzani, the people of Kurdistan will continue their path of strength and achievement.

Barzani added that the government took forward to a brighter and more prosperous future, built on the guidance of President Barzani, the bravery of the Peshmerga forces, and the enduring resilience of the Kurdish people.

Concluding his remarks, he expressed deep appreciation for the patience and steadfastness of the people of the Kurdistan Region amid ongoing regional challenges, stressing the government’s commitment to safeguarding Kurdistan and keeping it away from conflict and instability, ensuring it remains a haven of security and stability.
