ARK News.. The Barzani Charity Foundation announced on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, the launch of a large-scale humanitarian campaign to provide urgent relief assistance to displaced and displaced families from the Syrian city of Aleppo who have sought refuge in the Afrin region following the recent military escalation.

In an official statement, the foundation said it is closely monitoring developments on the ground in Aleppo with deep concern, warning that the escalating tensions and clashes are inevitably leading to humanitarian disasters and forcing civilians to flee their homes.

The Barzani Charity Foundation stressed the need to protect civilian lives and prevent forced displacement, noting that such practices significantly exacerbate the suffering of women and children and create complex humanitarian crises.

According to the statement, large waves of displacement resulting from the tensions in Aleppo have moved toward Afrin, with preliminary figures indicating the arrival of nearly 22,000 displaced families in urgent need of assistance.

Based on these developments, the foundation’s office in Afrin announced the start of a major humanitarian campaign aimed at providing basic needs and essential supplies to the displaced families. The initiative, the statement said, comes as part of the foundation’s longstanding humanitarian role in assisting victims of wars and crises across the region.

In conclusion, the Barzani Charity Foundation issued an urgent appeal to international agencies, humanitarian organizations, and the international community, as well as benefactors in the Kurdistan Region and the Kurdistani diaspora abroad, to contribute and support its efforts to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need and to help alleviate the suffering of displaced families.
