World’s Largest U.S. Consulate Opens in Erbil

Dec 03 2025

ARK New.. In an official ceremony, the new United States Consulate building in Erbil will be inaugurated today, Wednesday, 3 December 2025. The facility is considered the largest U.S. consulate in the world.

According to available information, the new compound will be officially opened by Michael Regas, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources.

The project, whose foundation stone was laid on July 6, 2018, cost over $795 million and was constructed on 51 acres (206,000 square meters).

Designed as a self-contained “mini-city,” the consulate complex includes the main office building, residences for staff members, housing for security teams and visitors, a store, a parking facility, and extensive green spaces.

The new consulate—located on the road to the Salahuddin Resort—was built by the American firm EYP, with plans to employ nearly 1,000 people across various fields.

The facility incorporates advanced smart systems for wastewater treatment and reuse, solar and clean-energy power generation, an underground protection and security network, air and missile defense capabilities, and systems designed to counter drone and rocket attacks.

The compound consists of multiple buildings and administrative offices, large landscaped areas, and parking zones, making it the largest U.S. consulate anywhere in the world.
