UK and France Condemn Drone Attack on Kormor Gas Field in Kurdistan Region
ARK News.. The United Kingdom and France have strongly condemned the drone attack on the Kormor gas field in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region overnight.
British Ambassador Irfan Siddiq said, “Attacks on critical infrastructure threaten Iraq’s stability and the safety of its people. The United Kingdom stands with Iraqi partners and supports efforts to protect vital facilities. We urge those responsible for this attack to be held accountable.”
French Ambassador Patrick Durel also expressed solidarity with Iraqis on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I strongly condemn the attack on the Kormor gas field and extend my support to the affected citizens.”
The Kormor field, located in Chamchamal, Sulaymaniyah Governorate, is the largest in the Kurdistan Region and operated by Dana Gas (Pearl Petroleum consortium). It supplies fuel to power plants across Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok, and the halt caused by the attack has resulted in near-total electricity outages in the region.
