Possible U.S. Withdrawal from Syria Pressures SDF to Strike Deal with Syrian Government
ARK News.. Senior U.S. military officials have revealed that the potential future withdrawal of American forces played a key role in pressuring the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to reach an agreement with Damascus.
According to The Wall Street Journal, a high-ranking U.S. military official stated: “There was a lot of discussion, and we played the role of mediator to help them (SDF and the Syrian government) engage in this dialogue.”
The official further explained, “We exchanged views until we finally reached an agreement that satisfied all parties. We repeated this process several times before finally bringing them to this point.”
He also noted that “in the end, the agreement was reached suddenly. Coalition forces transported Mazloum Abdi by helicopter to an airport near Damascus, where he signed the document with al-Sharaa.”
The official emphasized that integrating the SDF into the Syrian government is “beneficial for ensuring the U.S. military's ability to operate in Syria.”
