Syria Receives Shipment of Syrian Pound Currency from Russia
ARK News.. The media office of the Central Bank of Syria confirmed the arrival of a shipment of Syrian Pound banknotes from Russia via Damascus International Airport.
The Central Bank's media office clarified that “the circulated figures regarding the amount and volume of the funds are highly inaccurate,” emphasizing the importance of relying on official information and avoiding rumors.
On Thursday, news outlets reported that a shipment of money was expected to arrive at Damascus Airport from Russia, with an estimated amount of 60 trillion Syrian Pounds in 5,000-pound denominations.
Previously, Central Bank Governor Maysa Sabrin stated that the bank aims to minimize currency printing to avoid fluctuations in inflation rates.
Since then, the value of the Syrian Pound has strengthened on the black market, reaching 9,850 against the U.S. dollar on Thursday, according to currency exchange offices.
However, the Central Bank maintains the official exchange rate at approximately 13,000 Syrian Pounds per dollar.
Before turning to Russia, Syria used to print its currency in Austria through a company affiliated with the Austrian National Bank.
