UN Announces Reconstruction Support Plans for Syria

ARK News.. The United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator in Syria has unveiled UN plans to support the reconstruction of Syria in collaboration with the new administration in Damascus.

Adam Abdelmoula, the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator in Syria, emphasized the importance of ensuring that the transitional period is “safe and founded on consensus among Syrians of all sects and affiliations.”

He noted the presence of international proposals, including a call by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to host an international donors' conference next spring. The conference aims to mobilize resources to support Syria’s reconstruction efforts.

Abdelmoula revealed that the UN is consulting with the new Syrian administration to prepare the necessary development projects, including cost assessments, to present at the conference. He disclosed that the UN has prepared a comprehensive development program to improve infrastructure and essential services, including electricity, healthcare, agriculture, and irrigation, to support Syria’s economy.

The UN official affirmed that the "Early Recovery Strategy," launched last November, remains active despite the proposed fund for it not yet being registered in New York. He clarified that this fund will be dedicated to reconstruction efforts as soon as these initiatives are officially underway.

These plans signal a major step toward addressing Syria’s recovery needs, aiming to rebuild its infrastructure and improve living conditions for its people, with the UN playing a pivotal role in coordinating international support.
