Russia Transfers Military Equipment from Syria to Libya

ARK News.. An American news network has reported that Russia has intensified the transfer of military equipment from the Himeimim Airbase in western Syria to a desert base in Libya. This development follows the fall of the Assad regime and the uncertain stance of Syria's new administration regarding Russia's presence in the country.

According to CNN, Russia initiated multiple flights to a Libyan airbase in the weeks following Bashar al-Assad’s ousting.

The report indicates that Russia aims to establish an alternative hub for its expanding military activities in Africa, while also maintaining a strategic foothold in the Mediterranean. For nearly a decade, the Himeimim Airbase and the Tartous naval facility served these dual purposes.

Flight tracking data revealed more than one daily flight since mid-December, using giant Antonov AN-124 and Ilyushin IL-76 transport planes.

The flights reportedly departed from the Himeimim base to al-Khadim Airbase near the city of Benghazi in eastern Libya. According to the network, the transferred equipment likely includes advanced Russian air defense systems. These systems were observed awaiting air transport from Syria shortly before the flights commenced.

This strategic redeployment underscores Russia's efforts to adapt to shifting geopolitical dynamics in the region while reinforcing its military influence in Africa and the Mediterranean.
