Maher al-Assad Hosted by PKK Leaders in Qandil

ARK News.. Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath has reported that Maher al-Assad, the brother of the ousted Syrian regime leader Bashar al-Assad, is currently in the Qandil Mountains, the stronghold of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leadership.

According to the report on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, Maher al-Assad was hosted by Bafel Talabani, the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), in the city of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The source added that Maher al-Assad traveled from Sulaymaniyah to the Qandil Mountains, where he is now being hosted by senior PKK leaders.

Furthermore, the report revealed that Ali Mamlouk, the head of the National Security Bureau of the Bashar al-Assad regime, who reportedly fell from power on Sunday, December 8, 2024, also arrived in the Qandil Mountains. Mamlouk entered Iraqi territory via Beirut.

The channel previously reported that Maher al-Assad entered Iraq accompanied by Iranian advisors through the Akkashat border area on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

This development highlights ongoing regional movements and alliances involving Syrian regime figures, the PKK leadership, and Iranian advisors amid complex geopolitical dynamics in the region.
