Dec 17 2024

ARK News.. Armed factions continue to impose levies on Kurdish residents in the villages and towns of Afrin in Syrian Kurdistan. A new fee of $40 USD per household has been enforced on a village in the Sherawa area.

A confidential source informed ARK News that on December 10, 2024, the Sultan Suleiman Shah Division, led by Mohammed al-Jassem (Abu Amsha), imposed a $40 USD levy on every family residing in the village of Kurzele in Sherawa area. This marks the second such levy this year.

The source confirmed that the faction threatened severe consequences for anyone refusing to pay the levy, which totals $17,000 USD. The funds are reportedly being collected in exchange for the faction’s armed protection of olive fields, as well as a ransom linked to the killing of a displaced Arab individual in the fields of the "Turinde" village in Afrin.
