The Council continued in its message saying: "We hope that your presidency will represent a new phase that will contribute to ending the suffering of the Syrian people who have long suffered from war and destruction.

The message pointed out that “We count on your support for international efforts to implement UN Resolution 2254, as a roadmap to achieve the aspirations of the Syrians for freedom and dignity, and to guarantee the rights of all components of the Syrian people, including the legitimate national rights of the Kurdish people."
