U.S. Ambassador Congratulates President Barzani on the Successful Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections
ARK News.. President Masoud Barzani met with U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, on Monday, November 4, 2024, at his residence in Salahaddin.
The meeting attended by U.S. Consul General in Erbil, Steve Fagin, covered political and security developments in the region and recent Middle Eastern updates.
Both sides exchanging perspectives on Iraq’s political process and the recent election of a new Iraqi Speaker of Parliament.
During the meeting, Ambassador Romanowski extended her congratulations to President Barzani on the successful conduct of Kurdistan’s parliamentary elections held on October 20.
She commended the Kurdistan Region for organizing the elections in a democratic and peaceful atmosphere despite regional tensions, portraying a positive image of the Kurdistan Region to the world.
President Barzani expressed gratitude to the international community and the Independent High Electoral Commission for their significant roles in the successful elections, noting some technical challenges that arose during the process.
He also discussed steps toward forming the new government in the Kurdistan Region, mentioning that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has formed a negotiation team to engage with other political parties on the structure and agenda of the upcoming government.
The meeting further addressed political and security situations in the region, developments in the Middle East, and the ongoing political process in Iraq, including the election of a new Speaker of Parliament.
