Hakan Fidan: Syrian regime is not ready for normalization with Turkey
ARK News.. The Turkish Foreign Minister has revealed that the Assad regime is not ready to normalize relations with Turkey or reach an agreement with the Syrian opposition to end the ongoing conflict.
In an interview published by the Turkish newspaper Hurriyat on Sunday, November 3, 2023, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Turkey seeks to see the regime and opposition establish a political framework on which they can agree in a conflict-free environment.
Fidan added, “It is important for the Syrian regime to provide a safe and stable environment for its people, alongside the opposition.”
The Turkish Foreign Minister emphasized the need for “genuine dialogue with the Syrian opposition,” adding, “Our hope is that Assad reaches an agreement with his opponents.”
He continued, “But as far as we know, (Assad) and his partners are not ready to resolve certain issues, nor are they prepared to reach an agreement with the Syrian opposition or engage in significant normalization with Turkey.”
