Nechirvan Barzani: Peshmerga defends Iraq, the region and all of humanity

ARK News.. The President of the Kurdistan Region stressed that the Peshmerga do not pose a threat, but rather are forces defending Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

During a speech he delivered during the graduation ceremony of the 29th Peshmerga officers' course from the Military College in Zakho, today, Thursday, October 17, 2024, which numbered 792 officers, including 50 women, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, called on the federal government to arm the Peshmerga forces as part of the military defense system in the country, stressing that the Peshmerga defends Iraq, the region and all of humanity.

The President of the Kurdistan Region said, "It is a source of pleasure that this course included the graduation of 50 female officers, including 13 officers from the Yazidi sect and one woman from the Kakai community, expressing his hope to increase the number of women in the ranks of officers in the Peshmerga forces in the coming courses."

The President of the Kurdistan Region added that the Peshmerga forces set an example of defense and self-sacrifice, and broke the myth of ISIS and did not allow the extremist organization to approach Kurdistan.

Nechirvan Barzani thanked the international coalition for its cooperation and providing strategic support and assistance to the Peshmerga and Iraqi forces in the war against ISIS, calling on it to continue coordination and cooperation with the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army.

He pointed to the continuation of coordination and cooperation between the Peshmerga forces, the Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Forces to establish security and stability in Iraq, especially in the disputed areas, stressing that ISIS still poses a serious threat to the security and stability of Iraq and the region, and that "cooperation and coordination between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army must continue."

The President of the Kurdistan Region stressed that the region supports the ceasefire and the peaceful solution to all problems, and we do not want the Kurdistan Region or Iraq to be dragged into these complications, and every possible effort must be made to avoid escalation.
