Lebanon calls on the European Union to classify Syrian refugees as illegal immigrants
ARK News.. In a letter to the European Union, the Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament requested that Syrian refugees present on Lebanese territory be classified as illegal immigrants.
Lebanese media sources revealed that Elias Bu Sa’ab, Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, sent a letter to the European Union through the Belgian Ambassador to Lebanon, Arnaut Pauwels, in which the MP called on him to claim: "understand the reality of the crisis and the damage caused by the presence of Syrian refugees in Lebanon."
He said in his letter: "They should no longer be called refugees, but rather illegal immigrants, as the purpose of their presence on Lebanese territory has become economic, and Lebanon cannot bear more economic and security burdens resulting from their presence."
The Lebanese authorities continue to tighten the noose on Syrians with the aim of forcing them to return to their country, as they work almost daily to close their shops and institutions, and arrest others on charges of not having legal papers or entering the country illegally, as they are deported without giving them a chance to settle their situation.
