Germany deports about 10,000 asylum seekers, including more than 500 Syrians
ARK News.. According to data from the German Interior Ministry, the number of asylum seekers deported from Germany whose applications were rejected in the first half of this year, while the number of deportations to other EU member states amounted to a third.
Official data from the German Interior Ministry revealed that the number of people deported from Germany increased in the first half of 2024, days after a knife attack in the western city of Solingen, which renewed the debate over the country's immigration policies.
The ministry stated that 9,465 people were deported in the first six months of this year 2024, an increase from 7,861 in the same period in 2023, and in total, 16,430 people were deported in 2023, a significant increase from about 13,000 in the previous year.
According to data from the German Interior Ministry, the number of people deported this year is distributed as follows:
- 915 from Turkey.
- 839 from Georgia.
- 774 from North Macedonia.
- 675 from Afghanistan.
- 586 from Albania.
- 534 from Syria.
Germany does not deport migrants to Afghanistan or Syria, prompting calls from opposition parties for a change in policy after a police officer was killed by an Afghan refugee in May.
The perpetrator of the knife attack in Solingen last week, which killed three people, was from Syria. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack and said the perpetrator was a member of the group.
A third of the deportations were to other EU member states, in line with EU rules that asylum applications are sent to the country where a migrant first enters the bloc.
