About 160,000 Syrians are still under arrest or forcibly disappeared in Syria
ARK News.. On the occasion of the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearances, the Syrian Network for Human Rights issued a report confirming that about 160,000 Syrians, including children and women, are still under arrest and forcibly disappeared.
According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights database, no less than 157,634 individuals, including 5,274 children and 10,221 women (adult female), are still under arrest or forcibly disappeared by the parties to the conflict and the controlling forces in Syria from March 2011 to August 2024.
The network added in its two reports that the number of forcibly disappeared persons reached no less than 113,218 individuals, including 3,129 children and 6,712 women (adult female), who are still forcibly disappeared by the parties to the conflict and the controlling forces in Syria from March 2011 to August 2024.
The number of enforced disappearances was distributed as follows:
- No less than 96,321, including 2,329 children and 5,742 women (adult female), by the Syrian regime forces.
- At least 8,684, including 319 children and 255 women (adult female), by ISIS.
- At least 2,246, including 17 children and 32 women (adult female), by HTS.
- At least 2,986, including 261 children and 574 women (adult female), by the armed opposition/National Army.
- While the Syrian Democratic Forces were responsible for 2,981, including 203 children and 109 women (adult female).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights recorded at least 1,634 people, including 24 children, 21 women, and 16 medical personnel, who were registered as deceased in the civil registry offices from the beginning of 2018 until August 2024. The cause of death was not mentioned, the regime did not hand over the bodies to the families, and the death was not announced at the time of its occurrence.
