Aug 03 2024

ARK News.. A Syrian lawyer and human rights activist announced that the Federal Supreme Court in Germany approved a life sentence for the former officer in the Syrian regime's intelligence, Anwar Raslan.

Anwar Bunni, the Syrian lawyer and human rights activist, said on his Facebook page that the Federal Supreme Court in Germany ratified on July 31, 2024, the ruling issued by the Koblenz Court on January 9, 2022, sentencing Anwar Raslan to life imprisonment for his participation in committing crimes against humanity.

Bunni added: "The ruling was seven hundred pages long, in which it talked about the criminal history of the Assad family, father and son, and mentioned Bashar al-Assad several times in the text of the decision as responsible for making the decision to commit the crimes of arrest and torture and his certain knowledge of killing under torture."

The Syrian lawyer pointed out that the ratification of the Federal Court makes the decision final and becomes a title of truth that cannot be bypassed or skipped over or over what was stated in it.

Bunni thanked the victims, witnesses, Syrian, European and international organizations, and the German police and federal public prosecutor's offices for all their efforts.

He stressed that criminals and perpetrators of violations in Syria "will not escape, and there is no safe place for them," stressing that "there is no peace without justice."

Raslan's trial began, on April 23, 2020, on charges of supervising the killing of 58 people and torturing 4,000 others in the intelligence branch known as the "Al-Khatib Branch" in Damascus, during the period extending from April 29, 2011 to September 7, 2012.
