Targeting US bases in Syria and Iraq
ARK News.. After the attacks of Iranian-backed militias on US bases in Syria and Iraq stopped since last February, the Ain al-Assad air base in Iraq and the Conoco gas plant base in Syria were targeted with missiles.
The US Department of Defence "Pentagon" announced that the Ain al-Assad air base in Iraq and the Conoco gas plant base in Syria were bombed with missiles after midnight on Thursday-Friday, July 25 and 26, 2024.
The US Department of Defence added that the attack did not result in any damage or casualties, while US aircraft rushed to respond.
Reuters reported, citing two security sources, that four Katyusha rockets were fired late Thursday at the Ain al-Assad air base in Iraq, where US-led coalition forces are stationed.
The two sources stated that two rockets fell inside the base, while the other two fell in its vicinity.
The attacks come two days after a military meeting in Washington at which Iraqi and American officials discussed ending the Coalition’s work after a decade of fighting the Islamic State group and repelling its sweep through Iraq and Syria.
No major announcements were made at the end of the talks, though American and Iraqi sources say an announcement about a phased withdrawal is likely in the coming weeks.
Iraqi political and military factions allied with Iran have been pressing the country’s government to quickly wind down the Coalition, saying they want all 2,500 troops to leave.
