America: More than half of Syria's population has become internally displaced or refugees abroad
ARK News.. On the occasion of World Population Day, the US Embassy in Syria confirmed that half of Syria’s population has become internally displaced or refugees abroad.
The US Embassy in Syria published on its Facebook page on Thursday, July 11, 2024, a post in which it said: “In 1989, the United Nations Development Program established World Population Day on this day to highlight the problems associated with population growth.”
The embassy added: "More than half of Syria's population is now internally displaced or refugees abroad."
It pointed out that: "Syria's population is not growing, but the needs of Syrians who suffer from the regime's violence and indifference continue to grow."
It added: "The United States remains the largest humanitarian donor inside Syria and in countries hosting Syrian refugees. Since the beginning of the conflict, the United States has provided more than $17.8 billion in humanitarian aid."
The embassy confirmed: “Just a few weeks ago, we announced approximately $593 million in new humanitarian aid to Syria at the eighth Brussels conference on (Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region).”
